How Twitter Works

1. What Is A Twitter Handle?

Here are a couple of quick insights about your Twitter handle.

Your Twitter name can be up to 15 characters long.

Your Twitter handle should be the name of your blog & Twitter will put an @ sign in front of it.

For example, my blog is Mom Resource and my Twitter handle is @KwetuNews.

Your Twitter handle is different from your Twitter username.

So, my Twitter handle is @KwetuNews but my username is my actual name, Saira.

You CAN change your Twitter handle later.

And the most important tip – Twitter handles are first-come first-serve.

Even if you do nothing else with your Twitter account now, grab the Twitter handle for your blog before someone else does.

2. Twitter Picture Size

You don’t need to worry about getting the exact Twitter picture size – just make sure the file size is less than 2MB.

Just make sure you Twitter profile image size is a square between 200 x 200 and 400 x 400.

I always recommend using the photo of a person, rather than a brand or blog name.

Twitter is probably the most social of the social networks.

This means people want to know they’re chatting with other real PEOPLE.

Big brands get away with using logos, because people are coming to talk to brands.

But when we talk about Twitter for bloggers, ideally you’ll use your own picture as the Twitter profile.

3. Twitter Bio

Ahhhh, the Twitter bio.

It’s easy to get stressed out about what to put in your Twitter bio:

  • Should it be a catchy bio or an impressive bio?
  • Should you use cute Twitter bio quotes or quotes about life?
  • And what about hashtags in your Twitter bio?
  • Really, it doesn’t matter THAT much.
  • Why?
  • Because you can change it as much or as often as you want!
  • You’re not married to your Twitter bio & as you see other bios that you like later, you can always change it.
  • I do offer tips for using your Twitter bio strategically here.

·         4. Twitter Header Size

  • Luckily you don’t have to remember the exact Twitter header size.
  • Use a free tool like Canva to choose the Twitter Header option.

They offer the right size & basic options but there’s so much more you can do with your Twitter header

5. Pinned Tweet

Turn any tweet into a pinned tweet by clicking the little arrow on the top, right corner of the tweet.

Then select pin to your profile page to pin that tweet.

You can not edit a pinned tweet, but you can always choose a different tweet to be the pinned tweet.

Now What?

Now that you know a little bit about Twitter for beginners, let’s keep your momentum going!

Here’s what I recommend for you next.

emember I told you this Twitter Basics Guide is a great FIRST STEP toward getting paid to tweet, but it is NOT the only step.

Next steps include:

  • Growing an audience that brands want to pay you for
  • Boosting your engagement, so your tweets go further
  • Scheduling tweets that can be reused
  • Sending people from your Twitter page to your email list, blog or sales page
